چکیده

The compression after high-velocity impact (CAI) behavior of pseudo-elastic shape memory alloy (PE-SMA) embedded glass/epoxy composite laminates manufactured via vacuum-assisted resin infusion (VARI) technique was investigated experimentally. High-velocity tests were performed on the composites using an in-house build gas-gun set-up at four different velocities (70, 85, 95, and 105 m/s). To elucidate, series damage events undergone under impact, a high-speed camera used. Quasi-static compression-after-impact to evaluate tolerance subjected impact. Real-time progression during CAI as well extent characterized by 2D Digital Image Correlation (DIC) technique. Three types embedment configurations PE-SMA wire, namely, with length variation (35, 70, 150 mm) also without anchors, test results show that ballistic limit anchored 35 mm is 72.72% higher than homogeneous composites. indicate based have better respect ones 70 m/s. In contrast, velocities, delamination area decreases in homogenous due more localized present compressive strength.

the pseudo-elastic behavior of shape memory alloy (sma) truss and cantilever beam are investigated. brinson’s one-dimensional material model, which uses the twinned and detwinned martensite fractions separately as internal variables, is applied in the algorithm to establish the sma stress-strain characteristics. this material model also incorporates different young’s modulus for austenitic and ...

Shape recovery of shape memory alloy fiber embedded resin matrix smart composite after crack repair.

Ni-Ti shape memory alloy fiber embedded resin matrix composites were produced for evaluation of "smart denture", a newly developing denture with the function to close its own crack. Their bending strength and shape recovery after instant crack repair was estimated. The embedded fibers did not decrease the bending strength of the composite after repair. The crack closure of the composites was pe...

Transformation of Embedded Shape Memory Alloy Ribbons

Shape memory alloy (SMA) wires can be embedded in a host material to alter the stiffness or modal response and provide vibration control. The interaction between the embedded SMA and the host material is critical to applications requiring transfer of loads or strain from the wire to the host. Although there has been a significant amount of research dedicated to characterizing and modeling the r...

Modelling low velocity impact induced damage in composite laminates

The paper presents recent progress on modelling low velocity impact induced damage in fibre reinforced composite laminates. It is important to understand the mechanisms of barely visible impact damage (BVID) and how it affects structural performance. To reduce labour intensive testing, the development of finite element (FE) techniques for simulating impact damage becomes essential and recent ef...
